I had just moved back into my my mom’s and was trying to distract my post-break up broken heart with a new career path. I was cooking in the kitchen while listening to an audio lesson about the inner-workings of the subconscious mind. My external and internal words were changing quickly as my teacher moved down the list of 20 key rules your subconscious mind responds to.
I had enrolled in a Neuro-Linguistic Programming certification program with plans to travel to Canada for the in-person training. We were given 10+ hours of pre-study audios to listen to before our arrival. It was suggested we listen to it twice, the subconscious mind loves repetition.
The first time I listened the majority of things on this list went right over my head. But there was one that instantly changed the way I approach my life, and language.
#11. The subconscious mind does not process negatives
My teacher described how the subconscious mind builds pictures through the use of language…so when you tell someone “Don’t think of a blue tree” of course you’re going to think of a blue tree.
Or if you tell a child, “Don’t spill your milk” you are actually placing an image of spilt milk directly into their mind when you’re really trying to communicate the opposite. For my students who are parents, #11 alone has completely changed the way they communicate with their kids.
As soon as you learn this, you start noticing where this happens in your own language and the language of other’s around you. It’s almost like you can’t not hear it. It’s fascinating. And the best part? It’s really such a simple yet life-changing tweak to make.
In this episode I share the list that changed my life with you, the same list you’ll find and dive deeper into inside of The Mental Wealth Method Self Study. This signature program is currently on sale for $333 (or 3 monthly payments of $111) until the end of this month for the Archival Sale. This is your last chance to enroll before it gets locked up in the vault forever!
Let me know your aha moments in the comments as you listen! Which subconscious rule inspired you the most? And how can you see yourself applying it to your own life?
With Love,
Jenna
